Q: Our kitten was given to us when she was about 7 weeks old. She constantly tries to suck on us (our arms, neck, face, fingers, hair, etc.) like she would if she were feeding on the momma kitty. What can we do to stop it?
Answer: Your kitten may still be experiencing some anxiety over leaving her mother. Pets, like people, are individuals with different ways of expressing themselves. Your kitten may be communicating a need for more attention by sucking as if she were still nursing. It may also be that your kitten is expressing contentment.
Whenever the kitten starts to suck, you might want to gently push her away and sternly say 'no'. She may get her feelings hurt, but she will come back to you again just to be petted. You may have to follow this procedure several times (and it needs to be consistent by all family members). |

| Boarding can be a very stressful time for your cat. She's taken out of her familiar environment, and she misses your companionship. To help minimize her stress, bring along a blanket or towel with your scent on it. Make sure to also bring along her regular brand of cat food. |
